New England Coaching Role for Peter Barber

New roles for Didsbury pro

DIDSBURY Golf Club’s much respected professional Peter Barber is delighted to be involved with some new coaching opportunities at national level.

Peter, the Didsbury professional for 22 years since leaving the European Tour, has built up a great reputation for his teaching skills over the years and as well as being a coach for Cheshire County players he also has an impressive list of top playing clients who regularly use his services.

Peter has been Captain of the Manchester Alliance and the PGA North Region but has not neglected his own playing skills looking to defend his Manchester Alliance match-play title for the ninth time in the coming weeks.

Peter said: “I will be coaching England u16’s along with Heswall pro Alan Thompson.  “Also I have been appointed as the England AASE coach for the North West with Paul Eales.

“This is the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence for students aged 16-19 years in full time education who are doing A levels or a BTech in a sport-related subject.

“The AASE students must have at least four GCSE’s at Grade C or above and are committed to completing their education.

“Some of the work will be based at Formby Hall which has superb facilities for coaching and practice.

“Candidates wishing to take part in the course must apply to the EGU who will vet their applications and we already have over 130 students who have applied to take part.

“It’s an exciting new venture and I am very pleased to be able to play a leading role in its development.”

Peter has a bye in the first round of the Alliance match play KO but there is plenty of action for other local players.

Chorlton pro David Valentine hosts Blackley amateur Alan Lane and David’s assistant Matt Sellors visits Dukinfield to take on their in-form pro Dave Green.

Didsbury amateur Jef Brothwell has a tough task at Knutsford to take on their pro Tim Maxwell.

In the Assistant’s match play competition Didsbury assistant pro James Gardener has a local derby as he hosts Withington’s Richard Garside while Northenden’s Alex Mattison has a bye.

The draw for the Manchester Alliance Mens Foursomes for the Superlux Trophy sees all of our local teams in preliminary round action. Didsbury have home advantage against New Mills as do Withington against Stand.  Chorlton have to travel to Regent’s Park, Bolton, while Northenden make the shorter trip to Flixton.

In the draw for the Williams BMW Junior Challenge organised by the Alliance Didsbury visit Ashton-on-Mersey and Northenden travel to Dunham Forest.
